Gamergaia-prototype_2_iconNew information, screenshots and concept art about the infected players will be facing in Activision's sequel to Prototype have been released. This time round, the hordes of infected you'll be fighting include Brawlers, Flyers, Juggernauts and Hydras, as well as the standard civilian zombies. Due for release on April 24th this year, Prototype 2 will focus on the story of James Heller, 14 months after the events of Prototype, with similar gameplay mechanics in utilising the mutations granted by the Blacklight virus.

Hydras

No, not the Starcraft unit. In Prototype 2, Hydras are giant tenticles that erupt from the ground, looking like pink and red glowing worms, about six feet wide at the base They are able to burrow back underground in order to change position, and can emerge from underneath an enemy building or tank to cause more damage, as well as grabbing enemies with their tongue to bring them closer.Lore-wise, it is thought that Hydras are simply intelligent appendages of the Biomass that spreads throughout New York City, which also erupts from underground.

Brawlers

Yep, the biggest pain in the ass from Prototype will be making a reappearance in Prototype 2. Brawlers are infected the size of a bear that run as fast as vehicles on all fours, with the strength to easily flip a vehicle with a shoulder barge. They are hariless with a pinkish skin, and will take a lot of damage before they go down. And they're very, very angry with you.

Flyers

New to Prototype 2, Flyers are infected birds. They look like diseased vultures, with flesh, scraggly feathers, and gnarled faces. Their wingspan is approximately two meters and they have enough bulk to knock a helicopter out of the sky. Their favorite attack method is to perform a high-speed dive-bomb, and they mass in flocks.

Juggernauts

Previously infected humans, Juggernauts are the Blacklight tanks, evolving to be as large as vans, slow moving, powerful and armoured. They are usually grey skinned, with rock-like flesh which deflects even rockets and other high-speed attacks. Their primary attack is a simple brute force approach - they use their massive fists to try and smash anything close to them, though some are able to summon a wave of biomass spikes from the ground.

Infected Humans

Standard zombie fare, you will kill many of these during your missions in New York Zero. They look like humans with tumours ripping through parts of their skin and clothing, losing any human intelligence in the transformation. They just want to eat your brains.

They won't be winning any beauty awards, but these beasties certainly look like good zombies. No doubt players will get the opportunity to kill hordes of them while rampaging through New York Zero (the new name for New York City.)
